Utility Trailering Course
We are pleased at Expedition Rentals to be able to provide Utility Trailering Classes. We focus on light utility trailers under 7 meters (22 feet), having a Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) under 4535 kg (10,000 lb). This does not include “5th wheel” type hitch systems.
Participants will:
- Develop trailer handling skills and increase driver confidence
- Gain knowledge and function of common trailer and tow vehicle components
- Identify Alberta MOT (Ministry Of Transport) requirements for trailer units
- Perform pre-trip inspections of trailer and tow vehicle;
- Identify safe practices in loading, securing, towing, and unloading trailers
- Tow trailers in urban and rural locations
- Learn safe backing with a trailer
- Identify safe guide/spotter techniques
- Perform backing practice
- Understand and identify when additional training is required
Course Duration:
Approximately 2 hours of theory and 2 hours of hands-on road training.
Courses run at 8:30 am and 1:30 pm.
There is a 2:1 client – instructor ratio rate for the trailering course. Participants will need to provide a suitable tow vehicle, a regular cab is acceptable for just one student, if there are two students an extended cab or crew cab truck is required and seating space will be needed in the rear passenger area. Vehicles must have brake controller and receiver.
